SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar organized on November 9 and 10, 2023 Two Days NCW sponsored National Seminar on ‘Women in Decision Making Roles in Corporate,’ in its campus. This event provided a platform to a diverse group of participants, including researchers, academicians from universities and institutions, representatives from NGOs, industry professionals, and corporate leaders.

Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur welcomed the guests, participants and research scholars. She talked about need to culminate knowledge through illuminating discussion for human development.  Director S. Jagdish Singh ji appreciated women for their unparallel contribution in all sectors. 

During the inaugural session Ms. Sonia Chadha, Deputy Vice President – HDFC while talking about challenges faced by women on leadership roles mentioned that gender biasness is most prominent challenge.  Ms. Pragya Sethi, Strategist and Editor – Pano Education in Taipei, Taiwan emphasized that rather than creating space for women as leaders, they should have it.

Dr. Namita Rajput, Professor (Finance) – Sri Aurobindo College, University of Delhi. Dr. Jaspal Singh, Professor, USFS, GNDU, Amritsar chaired the two technical sessions of the first day whereas Dr. Reena Nayyar, International Management Institute New Delhi and  Dr. Rupam Dhillon, Psychology Department, GNDU chaired the technical sessions of day Two. Speakers of different sessions during their interaction said that female need to be strong internally, and be prepared professonally and for raising voice in and outside the family,

In total 36 papers were presented. These included a mix of review based papers, research based papers and case studies through interaction and power point presentations. Presentations, discussions and question-answer sessions revolved around collaboration at different levels on policy issues, building social networks, reforming education that will help on increasing women presentation and creating women leaders.

 Second day of the seminar was dedicated to Bibi Raj Devi ji, wife of the founder of SSSS College of Commerce for Women Amritsar. She made silent contribution along with his philanthropist husband and Founder SSSS who donated their entire property for the education of locals and upliftment and welfare of the society. Director S. Jagdish Singh ji while addressing the audience talked about historical evolution of the SSSS institutions. Chief Guest Dr. Lakhwinder Singh ji ,Professor, GNDU during his interaction raised different questions like How much importance is given to the education in our culture,  What is the purpose of education; Is it for attaining degree, job attainment or for positive change;  Whether research is contributing to the society or just for professional growth; Whether women are capable or not; Is there any change in the role of male counterpart; Is the family is closely knitted; Is female is enjoying herself to fill the gap of gender  inequality. Quoting Guru Nanak Sahib, he conveyed the role of women, her primary status, and her contribution to the family and to the society. Certificates were presented to the participants. Dr. Supreet Kaur, Assistant Professor One paper of Khalsa College was awarded ‘Best Paper Award’. The author was honoured with token of gratitude. Three participants Dr. Shivan Sarpal, Assistant Professor Khalsa College of Law, Two students of SSSS College of Commerce Ms Saranpreet Kaur and Ms Megha were given appreciation certificates.

During valedictory session, Principal thanked patronage of Director Sir, all the dignitaries, academicians, research scholars for their contribution in the form of shared ideas, thoughts and insights; and hoped that sharing of knowledge will definitely bring desirable societal changes for the human resource development by minimizing gender disparity. We need to view our self as a person and not as a women or as a man while making decisions. Make the weaknesses your strength. Disconnect from surroundings and connect yourself with the inner-self. Spend the time with ownself.  Feel positive vibes. Be creators. Collaborate rather than competing.
