SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar successfully hosted a two-day “Book Bank Fair” under Project Saugaat on August 9th and 10th, 2024. The event was a platform for students to exchange books, donate to the library, and purchase new books at discounted rates.
The fair was inaugurated by Honorary Secretary, S. Jagdish Singh, who inspired students to overcome challenges with a positive outlook, drawing inspiration from the spiritual tale of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Bhai Mardana. Principal, Dr. Navdeep Kaur emphasized the event’s annual significance and the students’ eagerness for its return.
The fair showcased a diverse collection of books spanning commerce, economics, management, computer science, literature, religion, spirituality, and competitive exams. Approximately 350 books found new homes among enthusiastic readers. The event witnessed active participation from 600 students and staff members, including those from SSSS College of Commerce and Allied Studies and SSSS College of Arts for Women. A special book counter set up by Ravi Publications from New Delhi, allowed students to purchase books of their choice, adding another dimension to the event.
To appreciate exceptional contributions, Chanchal from B.Com III was honored as the “Donor of the Day” for gifting 70 books.
The meticulous organization by Mrs. Simranjeet Kaur (Librarian) and Mrs. Monica Chhabra (Assistant Professor in Commerce) contributed greatly to its success.
Project Saugaat not only fueled a passion for reading but also cultivated a sense of community and responsibility among the students. By facilitating book sharing and donation, the event enriched the college’s intellectual environment and left a lasting impression.
