SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar organized a Seven-Day FDP on Emerging Trends in Research Methods and Teaching Pedagogies from March 14 to March 20, 2024, at its campus.
The inaugural ceremony commenced after reciting the college prayer. The welcome note by the Principal highlighted the need for organizing such a program and mentioned the She Research Network in India ‘SheRNI platform’ launched by UGC INFLIBNET Centre for helping female scientists and faculty to connect. She also proposed and planned for conducting a pilot study related to the Flipped classroom at SSSS. During this session, the resource person, Professor Dr. Mandeep Kaur, briefed about the journey of conducting the research covering stages of the research process and suggested conducting the research at the micro level.
This one-week FDP program was organized by the IQAC Unit of the College and coordinated by Mrs. Pooja Moonga and Dr. Samriti Kapoor.
Various sessions were conducted during the FDP. Dr. Shivan Sarpal, Assistant Professor Khalsa College of Law, Amritsar, involved the participants in hands-on application of various statistical techniques like t-test, one-way ANOVA, and chi-square using SPSS software and how to interpret the results. Dr. Yadwinder Parmar, Assistant Professor University Business School, GNDU Amritsar, acquainted the participants about Regression Analysis and its applications through illustrations and examples. Dr. Ravineet Kaur, Assistant Professor, University Business School GNDU Amritsar discussed ‘How to Design a Questionnaire or Survey for Research’ and talked about different research techniques, type of scales, format of the questionnaires, and how to translate the research questions into variables of the study through relevant examples. Dr. Sidharath Seth, a Corporate Trainer talked on Technical Analysis Financial Modeling using Factor Models. Dr. Deepika Kohli, Assistant Professor Khalsa College of Education, Amritsar focused on Innovative Pedagogical Strategies like cooperative learning, collaborative strategies, and peer learning using activities. Dr. Ritu Dhawan, Assistant Professor, Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar, talked about ‘From Data to Dimensions: A Journey into Factor Analysis’ and explained theoretical and practical implications of the factor analysis using examples. Dr. Vikas Kumar, Assistant Professor, University Business School GNDU, Amritsar discussed ‘Least Squares – Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) Using Smart PLS’ and strategies to publish research papers in high-impact journals. Dr. Poonam Mahajan, Assistant Professor, GNDU College Narot Jaimal Singh, Pathankot discussed ‘Panel Data Regression Analysis’ and suggested considering the models to be formulated before beginning the research process. Dr. Dilpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor University Business School, GNDU Amritsar, acquainted the participants about Structuring a Research Paper through relevant examples and suggested certain tips and preliminary checks required before embarking upon writing a research paper.
Dr. Pavleen Kaur, Professor and Head, University Business School, GNDU, Amritsar, presided over the Valedictory Session and talked about the uplifted and multifaceted role of teachers in the present ever-changing era. She suggested moving from qualitative to mixed-method research.
During the formal vote of thanks, the Principal congratulated the participants and suggested being continuous learners and passionate teachers. Tokens of gratitude were presented to all the resource persons.
The sessions were learner-oriented, purposeful, and innovative, involving 40 participants comprising faculty and post-graduate students in hands-on application of various statistical techniques, sharing intellect and expertise, academic and research experiences, discussing teaching pedagogies and statistical analysis techniques of quantitative data, and engaging participants to remain curious by providing space for questioning and clarifying their doubts.
It was a remarkable and pleasing learning experience for participants in the journey of research. In the end, certificates were distributed to the participants and the Coordinators. S. Jagdish Singh ji, Honorary Secretary congratulated the organizing committee on the successful execution of the program and asked them to sharpen their research and pedagogical endeavors to deliver excellence in teaching and learning practices.
